Pledge
Cyberbullying is the use of communication technologies, such as mobile phones and the Internet to deliberately upset someone else. Being sent an abusive or threatening text message, or seeing nasty comments about yourself on a website can be really upsetting. By signing this simple pledge you can say no to Cyberbullying.
I pledge to:
1) Always respect others
Remember to be aware of what you are sending and receiving whilst online or via mobile. Don’t participate in forwarding messages, pictures or insults about a person, you could be upsetting the person involved and you could even be committing a crime.
2) Keep my passwords private
Don’t let anyone know your passwords. This will stop people hacking into your accounts and pretending to be you.
3) Block the Bully
Most websites and services allow you to block or report someone who is behaving badly. Make use of these features, they are there for a reason!
4) Don’t retaliate or reply!
Replying to bullying messages, particularly in anger, is just what the bully wants. If you don’t respond they are likely to get bored and move on.
5) Save the evidence
Learn how to keep records of offending messages, pictures or online conversations. Save them to your machine or on your phone and they can be used as proof.
6) Make sure I tell someone
Tell an adult you trust if you are being bullied or are aware of it happening. There are lots of people who can help or you can call Childline on 0800 1111. You have a right not to be harassed and bullied online.
